I can’t imagine plaid ever going out of style, but this 2017 fall/winter season it’s in the fashion spotlight, which means there’s more in store.

Check out the images below for a tiny sample of what I’m seeing at Mall of America.

How To Wear White After Labor Day

1. Wear fabrics that lend themselves to the season, e.g. Cashmere, leather, denim, instead of linen.

2. If you tend to wear a lot of all black outfits in the fall/winter consider infusing a pop of white to brighten things up.

3. Red, grey and blue look terrific with white. (Check out the grey cashmere sweater, plaid pants, and the white handbag in the photo above.)

4. Accessories are a great way to integrate white into your wardrobe. (White boots are in the spotlight this season, check out the Ville Bootie by couture designer Balenciaga and also Zara.)

5. A single touch of white can be the exclamation point in your outfit. There’s no need to double dip, a single dose of white is very impactful.

6. Transition your favorite summer white tops into fall by layering them with either a vest or jacket.

7.  If you’re more traditional with your fashion values and wearing pristine white doesn’t feel quite right after Labor Day you can always wear “winter white.”

Back To School Fashion Trends 2017

Denim is still leading the way, yet there’s so much more in store. For outfit inspiration check out these clothes from Mall of America featured on Kare 11 at the Minnesota State Fair.

Baseball inspired jackets, graphic tees, slim straight leg jeans, camouflage prints, and thick sole sneakers.

Puffer vests, floral prints, pink, (from light to bright) sweatshirts, boyfriend jeans, sequins and lace up booties.

Contrasting stripes, sweatpants, (joggers too) hoodies and sneakers.

Red, bomber jackets, stripes, moto leggings, and velvet.

Denim shirts, colored denim, (especially in neutral tones) and boots.

Embroidery detail, vegan leather, biker jackets, striped shirts, jeans with destruction detail, faux fur, (you can’t see it in this photo but she’s carrying a red faux fur backpack) and ankle booties with studs and or buckle detail.

While waiting to showcase the back to school fashion trends I had a chance to take a photo with “blue ribbon baker” Marjorie Johnson. She’s a sweetie!

Wondering What To Wear To The State Fair?

I suggest keeping performance and or natural fabrics in mind, wearing loose clothing, comfortable shoes, and don’t forget to check the weather report so you know if you need to wear a jacket or grab an umbrella.

A cute dress is always a good choice because it’s one and done. Consider wearing it with a moisture wicking sports bra, Birkenstock shoes, and don’t forget your sunglasses.

Mixing prints is a fun way to pull an outfit together. If you like wearing skirts you might consider wearing shorts underneath. Unfortunately you can’t see it in this photo but I have them on every time I wear an a-line skirt.

Cotton is a natural fabric that breathes, so if the temperature is hot and humid it’s worth your consideration.

Light colors help to keep you cool and sports lovers can show their team spirit.

If you have great legs why not rock a pair of shorts, I like the look with a long sleeve shirt.

Backpacks, crossbody bags, sling bags, and fanny packs all provide a practical option for having hands free whether you’re getting on rides or munching a bunch.

Wide leg pants are in the fashion spotlight and they work nicely with a bodysuit, however if you’re going to wear a bodysuit I’d recommend one that features a snap crotch, (it will make things a lot easier when you head to the ladies room.)

Loose fitted clothing will help the air to circulate around your body and comfortable shoes means happy feet. 😊
