What Trend Is Showing No Signs Of Slowing Down?

The military trend. Listed below are a few ways to achieve the look:

1. Wear olive green (I’m seeing this color in a variety of styles i.e. this v-neck dress from Kit and Ace.)

2. Try a military inspired jacket with embossed buttons (like this one from Agaci for only $29.90.)

3. Details like epaulets or cargo pockets speak to the trend without you ever uttering a word (like this fun romper from BCBG.)

4. Camouflage prints come in a variety of tones (I love how True Religion combined moto elements to these pants.)

FALL 2016 FASHION TREND

Choker necklaces are a major trend. I’m seeing them at prices under ten dollars and up in textures such as suede, velvet, metal and leather. If you’re the DIY type consider making your own with grosgrain ribbon or other materials. Read more about it here.

Accessories are a great way to update your wardrobe.  You can use a choker necklace to revitalize a wardrobe staple; making something old feel new again.

Style Tip: Choker widths vary so if you don’t have a long neck you might like a thinner style.

Do You Wear Short Shorts?

Shorts are a warm weather staple. This season I’ve noticed a stronger presence of short shorts.  A recent feature in WWD, “Suns Out Buns Out” confirmed my observation. Whether you love or hate the cheeky trend there are other options.

Bermuda shorts generally hover around the knee. They do tend to draw attention to the leg so if you’re self conscious about your thighs consider a slightly relaxed fit with an easy breezy top, or if your Bermuda shorts are more fitted you can use wardrobe strategies such as layering with a vest to help balance your shape. Style tip: Bermuda shorts can cut off your leg line so you might want to wear heels, wedges, T-straps or nude shoes to help elongate your legs.

Mid thigh shorts with a straight leg are generally universally flattering. Retailers sell shorts in a variety of lengths, so find your sweet spot. Style tip: I love seeing girls wearing shorter shorts with with a longer sleeve top.

You don’t have to be a certain age to wear shorts. It’s more about your confidence and how great your legs look. Style tip:  If you’re like me and you have fuller thighs look for fabrics that drape or a slightly wider leg.  Shorts with a slightly relaxed leg it can make your thighs appear slimmer.

Denim shorts are all the rage. Consider a pair that you can roll or cuff so you can customize them to your preferred length. Style tip: Keep in mind fitted shorts generally look awesome with a top that gently floats away from the body.

Swimsuit Solutions

1. Bring a size up from your dress size into the fitting room

2. Look for hang tags that indicate features that target your perceived or real body challenge.

3. Know your body type.

4. Full bust look for support with thick straps and underwire. Don’t wear a skimpy swimsuit bottom if you don’t want to enhance the size of your bust.5. Tummy challenge? Look for innovative fabrics and/or construction details. Ruching & shirring can be very flattering design elements. Prints often camouflage more than solids.

Fun Day Emceeing

I stepped into another role as emcee of the Clothes Mentor event at JW Marriott at Mallofamerica. It was great having two special guests join me on stage to share their knowledge. The two top bloggers featured in this photo are Davee Ek from daveesecrets.com and Amanda Williams of mybellamoxie.com. These ladies are talented, inspiring, fun to be around, and passionate about fashion and style.
